Progression of Knowledge
At Birk Hill our curriculum is designed and delivered in a way that allows the children to transfer key knowledge to long term memory.
It is sequenced so that new knowledge, vocabulary and skills builds on what has taught before and the children can work towards clearly defined end points.
Subject leaders have set out specific knowledge and vocabulary which should be taught to each year group. These give a step-by-step guide for the order in which the knowledge of a subject is taught. This ensures that children develop the knowledge needed in a logical order, to achieve the overall goal.
Teachers use ongoing assessment to check the children’s understanding in order to inform teaching and to help the children to embed and use knowledge fluently and develop their understanding.
